The idea of writing personal vows is something that most couples dream of, but for some reason so few do it. Why is that? Here are nine tips to write the perfect wedding vows: Number One – Make sure to get clearance from your officiant. Some of them will require you because of their religious views and their church to say certain things, and while others may be more lenient they still like to see what you’re saying and make sure its something you can endorse.
Number Two – Get Clearance From Your Spouse. You don’t want to spend all this time writing personal vows just to tell your spouse that you wrote them and then say they don’t want to do them. This makes for an awkward encounter and its just better to get it out of the way in the beginning. Number Three is to set a date to be finished. This is one of those things that you can’t just do in an afternoon. it takes time because you have to think and write down the things you love about the other person, so set a date to be finished. Number four is do your research. There are millions and millions of poems out there about love and marriage, as well as a bunch of writers who have all written down their ideas that are wonderful things that you can use and intersect into your personal vows that will just bring such an emotion to them Number five is brainstorm. You need to sit down with a pen and paper or a computer, ipad, whatever you use to just write down all the things that you love about your spouse. All the romantic things that they’ve done for you, or the funny things that make you laugh. Their best qualities is what should be on that paper. Number 6 is to create an outline and a feel. Do you want to make your audience laugh? Do you want to make them cry? Choose how you’re going to start it. With a story, with a funny memory, and then how to end it by summing it up with all the things that you love about your significant other. Number 7 is to remember your audience. I know that you guys have all of these inside jokes that you think are hilarious, but i would strongly encourage you to keep them to a minimum. Yes they’re friends and family, but they don’t necessarily understand them and it will seem like some foreign code that they’re listening to. You want them to be able to understand and to appreciate what you’re saying about your significant other. Number 8 may seem a little strange, but trust me its very important. You need to cut it down to about 1 to 1 and a half minutes. Now I know what you’re saying – that seems like a long time, or a short time depending on how you write. But trust me guys one minute when you’re standing up there in front of everybody can seem like an eternity. And you can fit everything you need to inside of that one minute. And finally guys, practice. Its one of the most important things you can do to make sure that your wedding vows are as special and meaningful as you can. Figure out where you wanna pause, where the natural pauses are, where you want to enunciate certain words, and just what is going to sound better when you’re reading them off.
